R.I.P. Steven Paul “Elliott” Smith
August 6, 1969 - October 21, 2003

I had the pleasure of seeing him once. Six years ago was a tough day…while difficult to accept, everyone knew it was just a matter of time.

Saw him a number of times when I was living in LA. Some of his shows were beyond fantastic. I don’t buy the idea that it was “just a matter of time.”

Sure, his music came across as dark and depressing, but if you look deeper, he was a sweet, caring, funny guy who apparently was making strides and getting healthy near the end of his life.

We all have our struggles. To say it was “a matter of time” is turning a blind eye to those in this world who have taken on their depression, taken on their drug problems, taken on whatever torments them, and kept on living and growing.

R.I.P. Elliott.
